This was the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Baltmore, occurring Sept. 13, 1814 where the battle inspired the writing of the poem that would become our National Anthem. John Applegate would have well over 500 descendants. One descendant Tom Applegate, former director of Indiana’s Veterans Affairs retired two years ago from that position, said a few words. Janet Kreps is a descendant of Applegate as well. The SAR will honor the service of John Quinn who served in the Rev. War. A Yorktown High School representative sang the national anthem. Mount Pleasant Historical Society coordinated the event.
