QUESTION OF THE DAY: What would you change about Yorktown?

Responses included sidewalks, trees grocery store, restaurants, preserve the heritage, housing, see downtown more integrated with parks, get rid of the river divide, more economic development, boutique shops, town center, more diverse businesses, a Dairy Queen, more façade restorations, more chamber members.

WELCOME BAGS TO NEW MEMBERS: Discussed preparing welcome bags to give to new chamber members.

TOWN REPORT:

New truck is outfitted and will be in service by the end of May; Yorktown police officers working with Muncie police officers; League of Women Voters did presentation; If the Dam project moves forward, the chamber should be involved; splash pad has been approved with the hope of bringing more families with young children into the area; how do we make downtown more attractive (grants, restoration of buildings and downtown area); National Citizens Survey – 1,000 went out, 477 returned (37%). Information in line with what the community expected to see and reaffirmed things that the community does well, things that are good and areas that need improvement. Ninety-five percent said that Yorktown is a quality place to live. The regional downward economy has affected the area as it used to be an industrial based. As the economy improves so will other aspects.

 

PROGRAM: Presented by Maureen Walby about LifeStream Services. LifeStream is the Aging and Disability Resource Center for East Central Indiana, providing a range of services for people who are at risk of losing their independence. These services include transportation, senior cafes, home delivered meals, case management, options counseling, wellness programs, volunteer opportunities, home modifications, and more. LifeStream is a nationally accredited agency that serves Blackford, Delaware, Grant, Henry, Jay, Madison and Randolph counties.  Celebrating this year, 40 years of service, LifeStream served nearly 12,000 people in 2014, with a financial impact of $28 million.

 

MISCELLANEOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

There will be two members per week profiled since there are 105 paid members; ITC Hoops events, watch basketball game, can will two tickets to Final Four: YCon Festival, scheduled for May 2, car show, hot dogs, 40 vendors, Dan’s fish/chicken, wonderful event for whole family; Seeking nominations for David Sursa Leadership Award, grant also provides $1,000 grant for the nominating organization; Yorktown grants to committee, deadline May 1, non-profit grants; YWCA fundraising event at Texas Roadhouse, tickets are $12.00; Yorktown United Methodist Church hosting chicken noodle dinner April 17, 4-7; Carl Storie has released new Blues CD; ECI Social Media Group, upcoming event with Randy Clark, Breakfast at Innovation Connector; Waters of Yorktown, lunch, March 30; GoFundMe.com – raising money for over-bed lift; LifeStream – Upcoming Golf Outing/Fundraiser, May 20, Players Club.

 

BUSINESS TIP: Time Management from Leslie Baim – During the last 15 minutes of your workday, write down a to-do list for the next day, listing the most difficult task first. This gives you the opportunity to better manage your responsibilities. Also, if you see someone doing a good job, tell them; it sometimes makes a big difference.
